Previous Litter Ellen and Geordie - 6 boys and 4 girls born November 14, 2014. The pups went to their new homes on January 10, 2015.
Birthday - November 14, 2014. Ellen delivered her first pup at 7:20 pm and her 10th pup at 11:05 pm. Birth weights ranged from 10 to 16 ounces which is a bit smaller than normal (usually about 16 ounces). All 10 are nursing well and look good at this point. The next 72 hours are important as Ellen settles into motherhood and the pups organs begin to function.
November 25 update. Ellen
is feeding and cleaning the pups well but is quite willing to leave
them on their own whenever the opportunity arises. When she does
take a break, the pups are quiet and contented so we know that
she is not neglecting them. All 10 pups are doing well. The smallest
pup is now with Violet and her litter to reduce the milk demand for
Ellen and to give the pup have more chance to nurse as Violet is almost
always with the pups.
November 29 - two weeks old. The pups are doing well. They are growing quickly, their eyes are opening and they are taking first steps. Ellen is doing a great job but spends as much time as possible out of the whelping box (and even further away if the opportunity arises). Here are a few pictures.
December 7 - Three weeks old. The
pups enjoyed this weeks visiting hours and their first solid meal
consisting of Royal Canin starter soaked in warm water until mushy.
They are all doing well and can now see and hear. Here are a few
pictures.
December 12 - Four weeks old. Ellen and her pups have done well over the past 4 weeks. As some of the pups have been peeking over the side of the whelping box, we moved them to new facilities. They will enjoy having more room and the opportunity to spend time with new owners and some of the older canine residents. The move went well and the pups adjusted quickly. Ellen seems pleased to have more freedom and to be able to go for daily walks again. The next 4 weeks will be busy as the pups will be weaned, dewormed, vet-checked, vaccinated, micro-chipped and matched to their new owners. We and they are up for the challenge! The visiting hours on Sunday December 12 were very well attended. Both litters were on the floor meeting all the guests. Please click HERE for pictures.
Mug Shots - December 14. The pups was given a coloured collars to identify them until they leave for their new homes. Here are their mug shots. All seem to be wondering what just happened.
December 20 - Five weeks old. During the past week, the pups nursed twice each day and ate solid food three times. They received the second worm meds and entertained many visitors. They continue to do well. Here are a few pictures of some of Ellen's pups during visiting hours. Watch
them grow. Each week, we will post a picture of the pups with a favourite toy so that you see how they are growing.
Eight Weeks Old - Going Home - January 10, 2014. After weeks of waiting, the day to take them home has arrived. The pups have been weaned, vet-checked, vaccinated, micro-chipped, socialized and matched to their new owners. They are completely ready for the next big adventure. It is a bitter-sweet time for us as we always enjoy our time with each group but we know that all the pups are going to people who will give them the love and care they deserve. Our thanks to yet another group of great owners. We have enjoyed meeting and getting to know them and we thank them for choosing Setherwood Goldens. Here are pictures of the pups as they leave us.
